It might be a bit early, but one has to believe that kicker Shaun Suisham has at least entered the chase for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2013 team MVP award.
Pittsburgh’s “Kicking Canuck” has been absolutely “money” this fall when it has come to his ability to put the ball through the uprights, and he has emerged as a definite bright spot during the team’s roller coaster start to the 2013 campaign.
Suisham is a perfect 14-for-14 on field goal attempts and a perfect 9-for-9 on extra point tries as well. He has scored 26 points over the last two weeks, both victories for the Steelers, and he was recognized for his efforts last Sunday against Baltimore by the NFL.
According to Steelers.com, Suisham was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week!
Pittsburgh’s kicker definitely deserved the honor, especially after he kicked four important field goals against the Ravens at Heinz Field. The last of Suisham’s kicks, as we all know now, was a game-winning one from 42 yards out which split the uprights as time expired.
The Steelers have not received this type of productivity from the kicker position since Jeff Reed was busy smashing paper towel dispensers, so it is nothing short of excellent to see Suisham succeeding and being recognized for his solid play.
