Since the 1970’s the Steelers defense saw nothing but success for nearly 40 years. The Steel Curtain reigned on for centuries, and it was Greg Lloyd‘s doing what lasted through the 1990s.

The outside linebacker was one of the most emotional leaders to play in the NFL. There weren’t many players before or after Lloyd who had the vocal impact he did on and off the field. Whether he was suited up or watching from the sidelines, Lloyd was always looking to teach his teammates.

His legacy is just as much on-field play as it is leadership. Offenses cringed in the wrath of Lloyd and Rod Woodson when playing Pittsburgh. No matter who you were, or what type of offense you had, there was no stopping the outside linebacker from doing whatever he needed to do to help this team.

The man did it all. He finished his career with 11 interceptions, 12 fumble recoveries, 24 forced fumbles and 54.5 sacks. For many, there hasn’t been an outside linebacker this talented since Lloyd. That may be true.
