Getting some luck

Statistics illustrate that being lucky is just as important as being good. A Harvard Sports Analysis Collective study entitled Examining Luck in NFL Turnovers, shows that winning the turnover battle usually decides the outcome of games.

Having one more turnover than your opponent means you are 70% more likely to win that game. Plus two or more turnovers, means you have at least an 84% chance of winning. The Harvard study concluded that, over the course of a season, a team’s turnover differential explains 42% of its wins and, “just over half” of the turnover differential “is due to luck.” Therefore, luck contributes to at least three wins each season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers must understand they can influence luck. Winning the turnover battle is one way. Another way, is by playing smart and aggressively to put yourself in a position to make plays. Remember the Immaculate Reception? A tipped pass to an alert, hustling Franco Harris snatched victory from the Oakland Raiders.
