A pass rush like the late 2000’s

Donnie Druin just wrote a piece on the 2008 Steelers and where they are today. That sparked something that should get everyone excited. This team finally has the weapons to deliver the pass rush they want to, and a scheme that should allow them to look like the quarterback’s worst nightmare Pittsburgh used to be.

T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree should no longer be looking to drop back into coverage every down. Cameron Sutton and Mike Hilton are more than talented enough to handle the underneath routes, leaving the outside backers to focus on one thing – the quarterback.

This could finally be Dupree’s year. A move to the right side will allow him to utilize his pass rush more, and as long as his potential isn’t fake, he could be a double-digit sack player for the first time in his career.

Cameron Heyward is a Pro Bowler who can easily find his way to 12-plus sacks again. Stephon Tuitt, if healthy, is one of the most powerful players on the defense. And of course, Vince Williams is looking to demonstrate his pass rushing ability, again.

This roster is loaded with players who love to get to the quarterback. It’ll be an exciting training camp watching them find different ways to get into the backfield.
