3 winners of Pittsburgh Steelers 2019 OTAs
By Edward Hunt
3. Devin Bush, LB
A player who the Steelers could almost name the offseason after is Devin Bush. The Steelers traded three picks to take him at 10 and make him the Mack linebacker.
Pittsburgh needed a replacement at Mack linebacker for over a year now and so the hope is that Devin Bush can be that guy. One important job that they are going to ask of Devin Bush is to be the primary signal caller on the defense and wear the “green dot” on his helmet to signify that he is the player getting the plays called into his helmet.
T.J. Watt described Bush as ‘quicker than snot.’ He went on to say that Bush had ‘been flying around making a lot of good plays.’ This is a good sign as being the signal caller as a rookie requires a strong knowledge of the game. It will be particularly important when the defense is asked to make a stop and they are playing on the road. They will need him to call the plays for the defense on the field and be a signal caller pre-snap.
It may not be important to perform in shorts in June, but it is a good sign to hear about some players stepping up. Devin Bush will be a key player as he will be the Mack Linebacker. James Washington could be a solid receiver for the Steelers, and Trey Edmunds could be a running back on the roster as well. Although it is hard to judge this early in the season, we have seen May and June success turn into regular season success.
