2015

Steelers pick: Bud Dupree

My pick: Byron Jones

This one was a no-brainer when pick 22 rolled around back in 2015. The Steelers needed serious help at both edge rusher and cornerback.

Jason Worilds had surprisingly retired at the age of 26, and the Steelers may have panicked. Dupree may not have seemed like a bad pick at the time with his rare combination of size, speed, and explosion. I admittedly wasn’t furious about the pick.

However, what I did know was that Dupree’s tape and production left a lot to be desired, and I thought he would have made a much better Buck linebacker than a pass rusher.

Byron Jones was the guy I wanted. He was a phenomenal athlete – one of the best the league has seen at the position. However, he also possessed ideal size and length, with solid film (albeit at Connecticut).

He was later taken by the Cowboys at pick 27 overall. They found themselves a Pro Bowl cornerback in Jones, and one of the best pure cover corners in the NFL.
