Darian Stewart

The third option for the Steelers at safety would (in all likelihood) be the cheapest. Darian Stewart turns 31 years old before the start of the season, but could still have a few years left in the tank.

The former undrafted free agent made a name for himself in the NFL. After spending his first 5 years with the Rams and Ravens, Stewart, had a productive last four seasons in Denver.

The nine-year veteran made the Pro Bowl for the Broncos back in 2016, and was part of a fantastic secondary in Denver. Stewart has experience at both free and strong safety, and could be the first man up for the Steelers in the event of an injury to Sean Davis or Terrell Edmunds.

Though he wouldn’t be a long term answer for the Steelers at free safety due to his age, Darian Stewart would offer leadership and a winning mentality to a secondary that has little playoff experience.

The Steelers need to find a way to win while they have Ben Roethlisberger. Though Stewart isn’t a star player, he prove to be the boost that the secondary needs to put them over the edge and into the playoffs in 2019.

The Steelers elected to ignore the safety position in the draft and free agency so far this offseason. With talented players just a phone call away, Pittsburgh should be looking to move some money around to add a safety that could help their team in a Super Bowl window.
