Could the Steelers be in play for Jacoby Brissett?

If Pittsburgh is not sold on Rudolph as the future however, the team needs to have other options to fall back on. Thus, the beginning of the list of possible outsource options for the Steelers.

The most traditional way for the Steelers to outsource for a quarterback would be draft another one. For this article, I will be examining players currently in the NFL. I find if all of these players are given the right situation could make an impact for the Steelers, and possibly become a franchise quarterback for years to come.

The first quarterback I find the Steelers should outsource for has to be Indianapolis Colts backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett. He is one of the best backup quarterbacks in the game at this time, and should not be wasting away on the Colts bench.

Since entering the NFL, Jacoby has passed for 3,500 yards while throwing 13 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He has played alongside quarterbacks in Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Andrew Luck – all three contributing to Brissett’s quick development in the NFL.

In an interview this off-season Brissett actually stated, “I want to be a starter in this league,” via Mike Chappell. Clearly he is eager for the challenge of becoming the face of a NFL franchise. There is no doubt in my mind the North Carolina State product has the ability to start in the NFL, and given the right situation he could lead a team to the playoffs right away.

Brissett is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2019-2020 season, and I expect the 26 year old to be a hot commodity on the market. The price may be too high for the Steelers to bid, and Pittsburgh probably will not give up Mason Rudolph so soon. The timing more than likely will not work out on the signing this next summer.
