Kameron Kelly

With Sean Davis’ injury, Kam Kelly got a really great opportunity to showcase what he can do to earn a roster spot. Needless to say, he made an impact.

Kelly had a great tackle for loss on a 3rd down early in the game and forced a fumble on a pass caught near the 1st down marker on another 3rd down play that forced 4th down for Tennessee. Kelly totaled four tackles on the night.

Overall, Kam Kelly looked really sharp. His coverage play was solid and reacted quickly, which is huge in today’s NFL. He seemed to be in so many plays throughout the night and didn’t allow any plays to be made over the top.

It’s a big year for Sean Davis to prove himself, but Kelly has had a really solid camp and preseason. I don’t think Kelly has done enough to supplant Davis as the starting free safety, but he’s definitely done enough to earn a roster spot.

I think most people close enough to the Steelers would be pretty surprised if he doesn’t land a spot on the final 53-man roster. Pittsburgh isn’t very deep at safety and anyone who’s turned as many heads as Kelly has can’t be ignored. This game tonight was another huge boost for Kam Kelly.
