Fries: Secondary

Where do we start? How about the big-time pass break up by Terrell Edmunds? Or Steve Nelson’s tight coverage and strong run support? Mike Hilton’s blitzing? The secondary was impressive.

Terrell Edmunds was all over the place—playing at 100 miles an hour. He made a few big hits on his way for 3 combined tackles and a pass break up. He is expected to make the leap on defense, and so far from this preseason he has been playing at the level they need him at.

The cornerbacks were also playing good quality football. Steve Nelson and Justin Layne each had a pass break up, big plays were very limited, and the Titans only recorded 132 net yards passing (179 gross.) Not a bad outing all things considered,

The one battle that has been the close one to follow in the secondary is the backup safety battle. Kameron Kelly has separated himself from this battle as he continues to shine. The former AAF player recorded 4 combined tackles and a key forced fumble on a 3rd down that led to a Titans punt.

The secondary put together a good performance overall. There were a few miscommunications as you would expect in the preseason but make no mistake this secondary is improving. It is also worth mentioning Joe Haden was not in the lineup; adding intrigue to the whole product’s look in two weeks.

Verdict: Good quality
