Marcus Allen: Stock – down

Allen struggled in his rookie season to really stand out. He appeared in just two games and recorded two tackles in 2018 for the Steelers.

Allen’s chance to grab attention came at the beginning of this camp and he didn’t really make his mark. With the depth at safety one of the weakest spots on the team, there was a full-blown competition for the backup spots.

Jordan Dangerfield had the edge early for his special teams prowess and he has been around for a while. Allen should have been the next in line for the fourth spot but he has not taken advantage of that opportunity.

Instead, former AAF standout Kam Kelly has taken hold of a safety spot. Allen didn’t help himself at all with taking a terrible angle on a big pass play Thursday night.

The Steelers preseason is over and roster cuts need to be made by 4pm on Saturday, August 31st. Guys like Tuzar Skipper and Johnny Holton have raised eyebrows and made any decision to cut them a hard one for the front office.

Regardless of who makes the team, fans have to trust in the front office to make the right decisions. If they want any shot at a postseason run and a chance at the Super Bowl, the Steelers need to put the best possible 53-man unit together for the long run in 2019.
