A dominant defense performance leads the Steelers to their first win of the season.

So when I say dominant, I mean dominant.  The Steelers defense improved from the 29th ranked defense to the 19th ranked defense over the course of one game.  According to the NFL website, the ‘D’ gave up a total of 175 yards to the Bengals.  Let me state that again…175 total yards to an NFL team!  That is the epitome of dominant.  They were not perfect, mind you, but no defense is perfect.

While surrendering only 175 yards of total offense to the Bengals, the Steelers defense generated 8 sacks.  Six different players notched at least one sack with Cameron Heyward leading the way with 2.5 sacks and an FF (Forced Fumble). Through four games, the ‘D’ is tied for 4th in the NFL in total number of sacks with 14 sacks.

Every Steelers fan loves to see the opposing QB on the ground after a sack. If we can maintain this pace, we will have accumulated 56 sacks for the season.  The ability for the defense to apply pressure to and sack the QB will only aid the offense; an offense that was effective and did not place our young QB in a position where he was forced to singlehandedly win the game. The young QB to whom I refer is, of course, Mason Rudolph.
