6 reasons Steelers CB Artie Burns remains a trade candidate before the deadline
By Tommy Jaggi
Burns is in a contract year
The final reason why the Steelers would be willing to trade cornerback, Artie Burns, is because he is in a contract year. If this were his second or even third year in the league, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation.
The Steelers gave Burns ample time to demonstrate the type of player he was going to be for them. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good enough. Pittsburgh made two significant cornerback acquisitions this year in Steven Nelson and Justin Layne – knowing that Burns was not going to be in their long-term plans.
Pittsburgh has no intention of signing Burns, and so far, he has only played in emergency situations. The Steelers would love to be able to exchange a backup player who won’t be on their roster next season for any draft selection they can get their hands on.
There haven’t been any formal reports yet that this may come to fruition, so as of now, this is all speculation and rumors. However, there is no doubt in my mind that this is a trade that could make sense for both parties involved. We will see if anyone bites.
