Defense and special teams report card vs. Rams

Secondary: A+

What more could we have possibly asked of this group of guys? Obviously, Minkah Fitzpatrick is the center of attention once again. He had an interception as well as a fumble recovery for a touchdown in this contest. However, he wasn’t the only one making plays. Joe Haden had a monster game with 5 pass defenses and an interception on a deep ball. Likewise, Steven Nelson and Cameron Sutton continue to fly under the radar. Though they didn’t light up the box score, their excellent coverage on the back end helped hold Cooper Kupp and company to very pedestrian performances.

Special teams: D

Special teams for the Steelers was a bit of a nightmare on Sunday. Ryan Switzer continues to make very little impact, as his lone punt return went for -1 yard. Diontae Johnson looked more promising, but a fumble on a return didn’t help his cause. Pittsburgh’s special teams coverage was solid for most of the game, but they did manage to give up a 30-yard kick return and an 18-yard punt return on the afternoon.

Overall, it was a very promising performance by the Steelers. While Mason Rudolph and James Washington flashed on offense, the most impressive play came on the defensive side of the ball. Pittsburgh will look to build on this momentum as they get set to take on the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night.
