Ryan Switzer

I know he recently headed to IR with a back injury, but up until this point, every fan was wondering the same thing: How on earth could Ryan Switzer still be on the roster this season?

Though he wasn’t bad in Pittsburgh last season, he still had his shortcomings. The 5’8” 185-pound receiver was able to manage a respectable 8.4 yards per punt return in 2018, but his kick return average dropped 5 yards per return from 2017 to 2018 (25.0 to 20.2).

In the receiving game, Switzer has never been more than a low-reward underneath option, as he managed just 7.0 yards per catch last season.

This year, things are going worse than ever for the former UNC product. Switzer is averaging a wretched 3.6 yards per punt return and 18.4 yards per kick return.

Perhaps the most disgusting statistic is the mere 3.4 yards per catch he has averaged in the receiving game this season. Switzer is very limited in his offensive role. Though he isn’t currently taking up a roster spot, he’s a player who should have been replaced long ago, and he shouldn’t be on the roster next season.
