Most likely NFL comparison: Evan Engram

I know Evan Engram is a ‘move’ tight end, but it’s not hard at all to draw comparisons between Engram and Chase Claypool. Claypool did much os his work from the slot in college, and while he may have more ability to win on the outside than Engram, I think the Steelers will use him a lot between the hashes.

Engram is a former first-round draft choice by the Giants in 2017. He has a very similar frame and muscular build as Claypool, and some of their athletic testing numbers were nearly identical.

Engram has yet to explode for more than 722 yards in his first three seasons, but he’s hardly a bust, as he’s one of the most reliable options in New York’s passing attack. Injuries have cut each of Engram’s seasons short, but the sky is the limit for his receiving ability. The same could be said for Claypool in the NFL. He may not be used exactly like Engram, but he should be a versatile weapon for Pittsburgh’s offense.

The Steelers would be more than happy if Claypool turned out to be Evan Engram in the NFL, and they would no doubt be thrilled if he could win on the outside like Vincent Jackson. It will be interesting to follow Claypool’s career to see if he ever reaches his incredibly high ceiling.
