1. Chase Claypool

Please take these numbers with a grain of salt, as Chase Claypool only has 6 receptions through the first three weeks and we are still very early into the 2020 season. However, for what he has done with limited opportunities, it’s hard not to come away impressed by him.

Though his sample size is clearly very small, Claypool is currently 1st in the NFL in yards per reception, 2nd in yards per target, and 4th in yards per route run. Things didn’t go quite as well for Claypool in Week 3 against the Houston Texans, as he caught just 1 of 4 targets for 24 yards. However, it’s important to note that one target from Roethlisberger was clearly off the mark, while another pass intended for Claypool would have been caught if a Texans defender wasn’t pulling his arm back (Claypool still almost came down with it).

The rookie receiver still has work to do in terms of route running and creating separation in and out of his breaks, but no Steelers fan can be upset with what they’ve witnessed from Claypool thus far in 2020. He has a chance to be the real deal if he keeps it up.

These numbers will no doubt change as the season goes on, and three weeks is hardly a big enough sample size to make a judgment on how to rank these wide receivers. No matter which order they appear in the end, let’s hope their efficiency numbers continue to trend in the right direction moving forward.
