The Steelers ‘D’ nearly gave up what should have been an insurmountable lead to the Titans

I don’t know about you, but when the lead over the Titans swelled to 20 points, I said to myself there is no way we blow this lead.  Well, we almost did.  I realize the ‘D’ did not purposely allow the Titans to get back into the game, but that’s what happened.

After the Titans managed a whopping minus 6 yards on their opening possession of the second half, we managed to score an additional three points to increase our lead to 27-7.  After that FG, we did nothing on offense and essentially nothing on defense.

The ‘saving grace’ was not surrendering a TD after ‘Big Ben’ threw his second INT.  As has been the case all year on defense, we made a big play when one needed to be made.  That big play was a sack by Vince Williams, one of our starting ILBs, on the first offensive play following the INT.

The ‘D’ honestly player well statistically, holding the Titans to 292 net yards, allowing a 38 percent conversion rate on third down, and adding two more sacks to the ledger, but did not force any turnovers.  We seem to play better on ‘D’ when we force at least one turnover.

Let’s wrap up this particular discussion.
