Tomlin’s Takeaway: Limit RB Ezekiel Elliott

Four years ago, Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott stormed into the league as an immediate superstar as he was hyped up to be. Finishing his debut, professional year with 1600+ rushing yards & 15 rushing touchdowns, the Steelers were one of his challenges on that road.

A game that ended up being one of the NFL’s best for the 2016 season, Elliott was at the forefront for the Cowboys throughout the night & on the game-winning drive. However, so was their offensive line compiled of LT Tyron Smith, C Travis Frederick, & RG Zack Martin in their primes, which now only one of the three remains on Dallas roster.

In the team’s recent presser with Tomlin, he uplifted & gave all the respects to the player Elliott is, detailing they have to limit him as a defense. Granite his success has been great; the two-time rushing leader has not run for more than 100 yards in a single game in 2020, the longest stretch of his career. He also has failed to reach at least 50 in two of the last three weeks.

Furthermore, the Cowboys RB has turned the ball over in half of his outings on the season, a newfound fumbling problem that represents a microcosm of how his season has panned out, & particularly for this offense since Prescott’s injury. The talent Ezekiel is has earned him the title of being one of the NFL’s best, as Tomlin described, but the performances have only got worse for what’s occurring around him.

Recently limited in practice due to a reported hamstring issue, the troubles continue to grow for Elliott, and now has to look toward the Steelers stingy rushing defense that ranks fifth in opponents yards per game (96.9).
