3 reasons Steelers running game is now non-existent
By Tommy Jaggi
Lack of running lanes
When the Steelers to dial-up a run, there never seems to be a lot there. Neither Conner nor Anthony McFarland could scoot free for more than 6 yards against the Cowboys in Week 9 and the two running backs averaged less than 2.5 yards per carry.
Benny Snell was even worse with his opportunities. Though he carried the ball just 3 times, he managed 0.3 yards per carry. While Pittsburgh doesn’t exactly possess the NFL’s most talented backfield, it makes you wonder if more blame shouldn’t be passed around to the offensive line.
If you go back and watch the game, there aren’t a lot of running lanes to be found. It wasn’t a matter of poor ball-carrier vision and Pittsburgh running backs missing holes, rather they just didn’t exist against the Cowboys.
Going up against a defensive line that has been manhandled by the rest of the league so far, we would have liked to see a much better performance from the Steelers offensive line in Week 9. They will need to step it up going forward.
We are still just halfway through the season, but we would have liked to see more consistent success on the ground by now. Let’s hope the Steelers find their stride late in the season.
