The Steelers have played complementary football all season thanks to good coaching

So whatever Mike Tomlin, our Head Coach since 2007, and his coaching staff are ‘selling’, our players are ‘buying’ or, to put more metaphorically, are ‘buying into’.  Although I have stated numerous times that we are a flawed team, we are still unbeaten and that has everything to do with coaching.

The scheme on offense seems to be working with Ben Roethlisberger, our franchise and future Hall of Fame QB, at the helm. I think it’s fair to say that the scheme is more of a collaboration between ‘Big Ben’ and Randy Fichtner, our Offensive Coordinator than it ever was with any other OC.

The scheme on defense seems to be working, albeit not without giving up a big play every now and then.  Keith Butler, our Defensive Coordinator, has the unit playing at a high level, but, again, I personally do not like playing ‘Cover 1’ almost exclusively, but I cannot argue with the results.

The Steelers are an imperfect team with a perfect record through ten games of the 2020 season. The game against the Jaguars proved that the Steelers can win a game ‘on the ground’, ‘through the air’, or just flat out playing a dominant style of defense.  We will need to continue to play with dominance as the season winds down because there is no such thing as a ‘cupcake’ game in the NFL.
