Losers: Steven Nelson

On the flip side of the defense, Steven Nelson struggled once again. Unlike Heyward, he is having a worse season than last, as his overall coverage has seen lapses. While not a weak link, he has taken a step back from last season’s phenomenal play. He had some of the tightest coverage on the team last year but has been picked on more so this year.

While he wasn’t solely responsible for stopping Stefon Diggs, he did seem like the primary culprit in a lot of his plays. Diggs racked up 10 receptions for 130 yards and the score, and a lot of that was due to Nelson not covering him well. Considering the play of the slot corners, it’s becoming clear that Nelson may be the worse starting corner on this team.

That isn’t a good thing when he is on a big contract and the Steelers will likely need cap space next year. As of now, he could be cut due to his overall dip in play and the money that he is owed. While he hasn’t been a disaster akin to Artie Burns, his 2020 play has suffered. The game against the Bills was yet another example of the struggles he has had this year.
