What happens if they don’t?

As established above, the Steelers are in a great position to re-establish the running game this week. The issue is, what happens if they don’t? The team can realistically win this game even with the poor offense that they have fielded over the past three weeks. The Bengals’ offense is a train wreck that couldn’t score against an abysmal Cowboys defense. A few scores should easily be enough for the Steelers to win. More than likely, the anemic offense that was fielded against the Bills would win this week.

While the Steelers could win this week without a run game, the same won’t be for the Colts, the Browns, or any team they face in the playoffs. You can’t go into a playoff-caliber game and expect to field an offense as they have. If the Steelers play the Bengals and only attempt to pass the ball, there would be no reason that any other team will fear the team’s rushing attack.

This week is the Steelers’ last chance to get this ground game going once again. If not, then the Steelers will likely remain one-dimensional. It may be enough to get them by the Bengals, but it won’t be enough to get them deep into the playoffs. This week, the Steelers have their best chance in recent weeks to get this ground game going once again. The talent is there, it is time that the team trusts this unit going forward.

In all ways, getting the ground game going is a necessity this week. Again, the Bengals can be beaten with this mediocre pass-based offense, but other teams won’t be. If the Steelers send out their offense with the same game plan that they have for the past three weeks, their season is done. Sure, they can make the playoffs, but a team with such an imbalanced offense won’t have a shot at a deep playoff run.
