Roughing the Passer

The most times, a Pittsburgh quarterback has been sacked on Monday night by the Bengals. It’s a tie held by Mark Malone and Neil O’Donnell. The Bengals have sacked both four times in one game. Cincinnati, though, has not sacked a Steelers quarterback more than twice on Monday night since 2013.

Turk Schonert had the worst night in being dropped by Pittsburgh. They sacked him seven times and then sacked Kenny Anderson another two times on October 10th, 1983. This Monday game was the game in which the Steelers injured Kenny Anderson’s neck. The play itself was quite controversial. Keith Gary claims he grabbed Anderson by the neck, but his hand slipped and caught his face mask. The Bengals claimed it was a dirty play as the face masking nearly turned Andersons head 90 degrees, in what was a scary-looking. Anderson did eventually recover from the sack.

It’s always interesting to see how teams have done historically in a rivalry like the Bengals and Steelers. It will be more interesting to see what happens this Monday night as that rivalry continues.
