Derek Watt
Watt signed with the Steelers the last offseason with a three-year deal. He did not perform up to what the team had hoped for on offense but his special team’s ability showed up as the season went on. He currently sits a little under four million against the cap. He just seems like a primed candidate to have a restructure in his deal to alleviate some of the team’s issues.
Ben Roethlisberger
Roethlisberger has by far the highest cap number on the team. He checks in at a little over 41 million for Pittsburgh this upcoming season. News just broke that he will be working with the team to find a way to come back at a cheaper cap charge. It seems like it could either be through an extension or some reduced rate. It will be a unique way of cap maneuvering for his cap number to go down. How much are the Steelers willing to pay him and how much is he willing to take? Those will be some very interesting numbers to see when the new deal or restructure is announced. It is unknown how long it will take to complete a new deal but this will be a major factor in how the cap space fluctuates for this offseason.
Stephon Tuitt
Cam Heyward just did a restructure and Tuitt will be up next. He has a very nice contract for the team. He has just come off his best season yet after reaching double digits in the sack column. Currently, Tuitt has the third-highest cap charge for Pittsburgh and that will change after a restructure occurs. After these happen then the team will likely be able to re-sign some of their own before free agency starts.
