Best-case scenarios for every Steelers pick in 2021 NFL Draft
By Andrew Falce
Round 4:
While finding a best-case scenario on day three is a bit of a stretch, Trey Sermon being available in the fourth round seems unlikely to say the least. Sermon was an anomaly this past season, as he had one of the best end of season stretches for a running back ever in the college game. It launched him into the spotlight, and while the hype has died down a little, he would be an incredible value in the fourth round.
Sermon could instantly come in and start for the Steelers while rotating with some of the other backs. The Steelers will have the luxury of having a strong group of backs being options for the team in the third and fourth rounds. Of them, Sermon may be the best option as his punishing running style fits the Steelers mold of a running back. It would be an easy pick if Sermon made it this far in the draft.
Another prospect that has varying draft grades, Ronnie Perkins would be a steal if he fell into the early fourth. This isn’t just because he can get after the quarterback, but he is also an established run stopper. His athletic profile isn’t great, which is usually something the Steelers look for, but his production was great. For a player that would be counted on as a reserve player, the team could do far worse than Perkins.
Had he tested as a great athlete, he would have been a slam dunk day-two pick. With how he tested though, he may slip into the fourth round. If he is available there, the team would be wise to add him. He would be a great reserve pass rusher that can rotate in early while adding more strength and power to his game. As well, he should be a great special teams’ player early on. Perkins would be a huge win if he could be had in the fourth round.
