3 positions on the Pittsburgh Steelers that are severely lacking quality depth

Steelers offensive tackles are scary all around
This is one area that I have a hard time agreeing with many fans. Show me why I should have reason to trust Chukwuma Okorafor and Zach Banner, and perhaps I will agree. Here’s what we know: Okorafor really struggled at right tackle in 2020 and will be asked to make the transition to left tackle this year – a harder and even more important position. Additionally, Zach Banner has just two career starts by the age of 27 and is still a complete mystery.
I know a lot of fans think that Alejandro Villanueva is completely washed up at this point, but he actually was solid in pass protection last year, and graded out quite well, according to Pro Football Focus. Losing him could be a bigger blow than you think – especially if Okorofor ends up being one of the worst left tackles in the NFL this year.
Most teams value offensive tackle over everything besides the quarterback position. It’s really important. In order to have a successful offense and to be able to drop back for more than two seconds, the tackles must be doing their job. I’m baffled as to why the Steelers would want to leave this up to chance.
If Okorofor or Banner really struggles or one of them gets injured, Pittsburgh only has Joe Haeg and fourth-round rookie Dan Moore Jr. behind them. This is not a good situation, and it’s one that I believe should be addressed before the season.
No team is always going to have great depth at every position, as there is such a thing as the salary cap. However, Pittsburgh clearly lacks depth at several very important positions, and they might want to see if they can improve this before the start of the 2021 season.
