Steelers should target Mekari

The Ravens overhauled their offensive line this offseason, and as a result, some of their former contributors may find themselves unemployed after training camp. One such name is center Patrick Mekari. He has started 13 games at center over the past two seasons and has had varying degrees of success. For a former undrafted free agent, he has carved out a role for himself, but the Ravens appear set to move on from him as they explore new interior line options

This could be big for the Steelers though, as the interior of their line has gotten questionable since the release of David DeCastro. Trai Turner is now the starter, but he hasn’t played a full season since 2016. As well, the center position is filled with questions as to how quickly Kendrick Green can develop into a starter. Adding a flexible option like Mekari would add depth all over the interior of this line.

As well, if a player like Green isn’t ready to start, Mekari could be a short-term starter. While far from an elite player, PFF gave him an overall grade of 66.9 for his play last season. Adding him would bolster the overall depth chart and give the Steelers another option along the interior of their line. If the Ravens cut ties, the Steelers need to be one of the first ones to call for his services.

The Steelers and Ravens will certainly have some fierce games this season. Before they get there though, there could be some player poaching on cutdown day. The Ravens have a few options that are on their roster bubble that could be a valuable addition for the Steelers. These three names in particular stand out as realistic cut candidates from the Ravens that should interest the Steelers.
