Dwayne Haskins isn’t the Steelers QB of the future

This isn’t news to me, but it could be for some of you reading this. I don’t mean to burst your bubble or say ‘I told you so,’ but despite what he was being talked up to be in training camp, Haskins very much proved in the preseason to be the same player we have seen in Washington over the past two years.

Over a month ago, I wrote about why Haskins was being overhyped, and the fact that he was a former first-round pick is something that is hard for many fans and media personnel to let go of. However, watching him play, you would have never guessed that this guy was the 15th overall draft choice just three years ago.

With a good opportunity at hand to try to show the Steelers why they could count on him down the road, Haskins completely biffed it. The big quarterback had a hard enough time moving the chains in this contest; let alone put points on the board. His offense was held scoreless through the first two quarters.

After Josh Dobbs came in for a few drives and managed to get his offense in field goal range, Haskins came back in and closed out the game with a garbage-time touchdown to salvage an embarrassingly bad stat line. Prior to the last drive of the game, Haskins had just 38 passing yards through roughly 3 quarterbacks. I know this is preseason, but this is not the quarterback we want leading our team in the future.
