Steelers loser: Eric Ebron

On the flip side of things, Eric Ebron somehow found a way to be less impactful than his week one version. He didn’t register any receptions on the day, and he had a key pass early in the game go right through his fingers. He seems to quickly be losing traction with this Steelers offense, and one has to wonder what his role will be going forward.

Freiermuth has seemingly taken on the role as a starter and based on his strong play it would be surprising to see him give that up any time soon.

Ebron can still function as a receiving threat, but the team is naturally favoring their talented trio of receivers as opposed to looking his way. With him offering nothing as a blocker, it seems as though Ebron has become a specialty target for the team, and one that they don’t need based on the talent elsewhere on the team.

While cutting him isn’t really an option, as his contract was reworked so there are no savings if he were to be released, a trade has to be on the table. His playing time will continue to evaporate as Freiermuth gets more comfortable as the starter which in turn leads to him seeing more time on the bench.

The offense isn’t utilizing him, and when they try to, he isn’t delivering. His time with the team may end sooner rather than later.
