EDGE Melvin Ingram

I’d hate to see Melvin Ingram leave after arriving just a few months back. Since he has come to Pittsburgh, he’s been an amazing signing for this team and is finally healthy. However, if the Steelers know they aren’t going anywhere this year, it would be better to get something out of Ingram than nothing at all.

The former first-round pick is free to sign with another club when free agency opens up in 2022, and with the way he has been playing, there could be some teams throwing good money in his direction.

With the Steelers already making T.J. Watt the highest-paid defensive player of all time and with Alex Highsmith across from him, I see no scenario where they pay Ingram good money to return as a 33-year-old in 2022.

There are always teams looking for pass-rush help and Ingram is still worth a high day-three pick as well as he has been playing. If they don’t think he’s returning next year, this could be worth pursuing.

I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but the Steelers don’t look any like a team with Super Bowl aspirations in 2021. Instead of letting these players hit the market and sign elsewhere next offseason, they could be proactive and trade them for draft compensation while they still hold value.
