3. Jalen Hurts
While the Steelers were linked to Jalen Hurts during the draft and could potentially be interested if he were to become available, there is no guarantee that he would be made available. Hurts would be second on this list, however with the uncertainty that he’ll be available he checks in the third slot.
However, there have been all kinds of rumors of the Eagles looking for an upgrade at quarterback throughout the offseason, and into the season, with them being linked to Deshaun Watson trades, and the potential several of the top quarterbacks in the NFL Draft last year.
While Hurts will be given every opportunity to prove he is the franchise quarterback for the Eagles, if the team struggles this season, and finds itself having a top draft pick, it may be hard for the team to pass on the opportunity to draft a top-ranked quarterback prospect.
As for why he would be a fit for the Steelers, Hurts would give the team a young quarterback, with two years left on his rookie contract, to build around. Hurts would also provide the team with dual-threat capability, even more so than Trubisky, as he has been one of the top rushing quarterbacks in the NFL since taking over for Carson Wentz last season.
Combine his rushing ability with the fact that he would be sharing a backfield with Harris, his former Alabama teammate, and that would give the Steelers a potentially dominant rushing duo, particularly if they use their draft capital to improve the offensive line. Seeing the Steelers centered around a dual-threat quarterback would definitely be different as the team hasn’t operated like that since Kordell Stewart left.
Hurts still has to develop a bit as a passer to take the next step as a pro quarterback, but the talent is undeniable. Not to mention if he was fully polished as a passer, there would be no way for the team to acquire him.
