5 Players the Steelers should keep in free agency
By Edward Hunt
Arthur Maulet
Arthur Maulet was a player that was not even guaranteed to make the 53-man roster at the beginning of the season. Maulet proved himself in camp and was hidden as the Steeler’s potential nickel corner in replacement of Mike Hilton.
To be honest, at the beginning of camp, Maulet seemed more like a safety, and it looked like Cameron Sutton was going to be the guy in the slot. The Steelers were committed to having Sutton play on the outside and that opened the door for Maulet to make it as the Steelers first-string nickel corner.
Maulet has been effective in that nickel role. He has been doing a decent job in coverage, an important aspect of playing in the secondary to put it lightly. The Steelers also like corners who can help you in other departments. Maulet has been effective in stopping the run.
What I like about Maulet is the hustle and pursuit he puts into every play. I’ve seen him flip the field and show sideline to sideline range as a corner in run defense. You can really tell he is a player who puts a lot of effort into how he plays the game.
I do acknowledge he has slipped a bit during this winning streak and is not performing at the level that he was at the beginning of the season, but the worst-case scenario for keeping him around is that he is a core special teams player.
