Steelers could trade Bush

No one expected Devin Bush to regress as much as he has in the 2021 season. He was a player on the rise in 2020, but he hasn’t been the same since getting on the field this year. His coverage has been horrible, as he misreads routes and is slow to react. His run defense is worse, as he can’t read the play and has to react instead of already be attacking his gap.

Heading into the offseason, the Steelers will have to make a significant choice about his future with the team. While it is almost certain that the team won’t pick up his contract option, the team may have to decide if he is worth staying around for the 2022 season. If the team can’t envision him starting in 2022, trading him while he has some semblance of value makes the most sense.

The compensation won’t be a lot, likely a mid to late day three pick, but if the Steelers are set to move on him anyway, trading him makes the most sense. Again, this has to be contingent on the team having a new plan at linebacker, but if his time as a starter is over, trading him makes the most sense. It would be a disappointing end for a former top ten pick, but it may be the best route for both sides in this offseason.
