Steelers draft: Predicting the top-5 quarterbacks on Pittsburgh’s radar
By Tommy Jaggi
4. Matt Corrall, Ole Miss
Matt Corral didn’t make the trip to Mobile this year for the Senior Bowl, so the Steelers are a bit behind the curve here in terms of personal meetings. This doesn’t mean that Corral won’t be a candidate for Pittsburgh in the first round this April.
While Corral doesn’t have the desired frame the Steelers typically look for at the position (listed at 6’1”, 205 lbs), he makes up for it with a good arm and excellent mobility. Corral creates terrific velocity with his tight, fast release and has shown the ability to drop the ball in a bucket down the field. In addition, he is very escapable with the ability to take off and move the chains with his legs.
Though Pittsburgh may not like the fact that Corral played in a gimmicky read-option offense under Lane Kiffin, it helps that he played at the highest level of competition in college football in the SEC and he led Ole Miss to a 10-win season for just the third time since 1971.
Corral does have some mild attitude/character concerns worth monitoring. Just taking a stab at this early in the offseason, I think there are three QB prospects who will be higher on Pittsburgh’s board this April, but that could change later in the process.
