Steelers draft: Predicting the top-5 quarterbacks on Pittsburgh’s radar
By Tommy Jaggi
2. Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh
There are going to be plenty of teams that have Kenny Pickett as their number one quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft. While he was unspectacular for most of his college career, he was insanely productive in 2021 is perhaps the most pro-ready of the group this season.
Pickett has shown that he can be poise and accurate. He doesn’t run with the ball a lot, but he’s certainly a good enough athlete to get outside the pocket and keep his eyes down the field to extend the play.
Many will question Pickett’s hand size as well as the fact that he has had just one respectable year of production dating back to his high school days. I also don’t love the fact that he is going to be a 24-year-old rookie. However, these aren’t enough to scare most teams away.
The Steelers are obviously very familiar with Pickett, and the Pitt quarterback has played the last five seasons at Heinz Field on Saturdays. Pickett doesn’t have the elite tools or arm talent Pittsburgh typically covets, but he could start from day one and still meets their thresholds in most areas.
