Steelers need to rebuild interior offensive line

The Steelers boosted one of the worst offensive lines in the league in 2021. The mix of veterans, young talent, and rookies never materialized into a top-tier unit. While there were some bright spots and ones that are worth building going forward, this team is still in need of a facelift at almost every position. Most vital is the interior, as both center and guard have a lot of questions moving forward.

Trai Turner was brought in to be the veteran replacement for David DeCastro. He was fine in that role, but his long-term value for the team isn’t that great. He may be brought back, but it shouldn’t be seen as a long-term answer at guard. The real issue is center Kendrick Green. The third-round rookie was a mess, and his future at any position along the line is very much in doubt.

The one bright spot was hopefully going to be Kevin Dotson. While’s Dotson wasn’t bad by any means, he never took the steps many thought he would going into his second season. While he can be counted on to start next year, it is unsure if he will ever reach the potential many saw in him after a good rookie season.

Luckily, this upcoming free-agent class has a bunch of potential starters along the interior of the office of line. Names like James Daniels, Austin Corbett, and Laken Tomlinson can all be viewed as potential starters along the interior of this line. Add in draft prospects like Tyler Linderbaum and Zion Johnson, and the team should have plenty of options to choose from when rebuilding this unit. No matter what, expect quite a few new faces to this group in 2022.
