1. Laken Tomlinson, Offensive Guard

While Morgan Moses was listed as a potential target for the Steelers at offensive tackle, if the Steelers are going to spend on only one free agent offensive lineman, then they should target a guard in free agency if possible. The guard that jumps out the most as a fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers is Laken Tomlinson from the San Francisco 49ers.

While offensive tackle is also a huge need there are plenty of potential first-round options at offensive tackle, and the team could easily select one there if they determine a quarterback isn’t worth selecting. Otherwise, they can select one in round two.

As for Tomlinson, he would be a tremendous addition to the offensive line to pair with Kevin Dotson as the team’s two offensive guards. According to Pro Football Reference, Tomlinson has made 104 starts since entering the league in 2015, and 80 of those have come in his five years in San Francisco.

Tomlinson was elected to his first Pro Bowl this year and has been a crucial member of one of the NFL’s most successful rushing attacks over the last few seasons, that has seen players such as Elijah Mitchell, Raheem Mostert, and others have tremendous seasons thanks in part to dominant offensive line play.

Tomlinson would be a huge upgrade to the offensive line for the Steelers and could help infuse some much-needed help not only protecting the quarterback but also in the running game. He is most known for his run blocking, and helping the running game will be extremely beneficial to the offense as it will make life easier on whoever is under center next season.

Clearly, the Steelers have an important offseason ahead of them. While many have cited the draft as so crucial to the team’s success next year and in the future, and rightfully so, it’s important to remember that free agency is also extremely important. Signing two or three of these players would be extremely beneficial to building up the Steelers’ roster.
