Steelers mock draft round 3: Sean Rhyan

Offensive lineman, UCLA, 6’5”, 321 lbs.

Though he was listed as the starter at left tackle for 2020 and 2021, Rhyan was used all over the O-LIne. He was routinely bumped from left to right tackle in Chip Kelly’s imaginative offense. He was also put inside at guard and lined up in the TE spot in two tackle blocking schemes. This speaks volumes about what Coach Kelly thought Rhyan could handle, both physically and mentally.

Rhyan fires out of his stance to neutralize speed. He shows good hand use and mirroring in pass protection. His stout build helps him have a solid anchor. He shows good leg drive and mobility in run blocking.

He looks very comfortable as a move blocker and was called on to pull, extensively. One incredible stat, Rhyan gave up only 2 sacks in his 1,160 career pass-blocking snaps. He scored an 83.7 PFF grade in 2021. Showing his explosiveness, his 33.5” vertical was best among offensive linemen at the 2022 Combine.

Rhyan’s position flexibility is one of his biggest strengths. Watching his video it looks like he could be very effective at both guard and tackle. And Rhyan has the talent to displace current Steelers’ O-Line starters at both of those positions on both the right and left side.
