Final thoughts on Steelers mock draft

I’m guessing for continuity sake, the retiring GM, Kevin Colbert, will be with the team through the Draft. He will be missed. Colbert has been one of the best in the business and it will be tough to replace him. We wish him luck and happy retirement.

The Steelers already have $28.8 million in cap space. That’s more than they’re used to having. If they cut Joe Schobert and Zach Banner they could have more than $41 million. They will have to use some of that money to keep players but they should have enough left over to sign a couple of starter quality free agents. If they have a good draft they could fill most of their roster gaps.

Even though both Aaron Rogers and Russell Wilson are now off the wish list, this is not the draft to get a quarterback. None of the top prospects are franchise players even though I’m sure some desperate teams will reach for them.

I’ve scouted Mason Rudolph more than any other player in the 10+ years I’ve been doing Mock Drafts. And, yes, I’m that rarest of thing, a Mason Rudolph supporter. I’ll be going in-depth as to why in an upcoming article.
