Steelers should pursue WR Christian Watson

Christian Watson still has some things to work on. The North Dakota State wide receiver has one of the highest drop rates in this class and he needs to be more consistent at the catch point. However, the upside is undeniable and he has a chance to be a game-changer at the next level.

Watson has terrific size at 6’4 1/8” and 208 pounds, but finding a player with 4.36 speed at his size is extremely rare. Watson plays every bit as fast as his testing numbers indicate and is actually quite smooth with the ball in his hands for a tall receiver.

Watson is projected to go early in the second round, but there’s a chance he’s still on the board when the Steelers are on the clock. If he is, they should run to the podium with this pick. For Pittsburgh, Watson could add explosion and upside to an otherwise lackluster offense.

In time, Watson could develop into one of the best deep threat receivers in the NFL and his elite tools will force teams to account for him down the field.

There are a few other small school prospects I would like the Steelers to target as well, but I feel really good about these four guys. If Pittsburgh has taken the time to scope them out, their brass should be salivating over the chance of landing one of them in the 2022 NFL Draft.
