Steelers must watch Moon

Brian Flores has a certain type when it comes to linebackers. He does really well when working with oversized frames that can blitz through the gaps and get after the quarterback. The Steelers don’t really have that type of player under contract right now, but Jeremiah Moon out of Florida could certainly fit the bill as that kind of a versatile linebacker.

Moon has been in the Florida program since 2016, but due to various injuries and COVID, he has stayed there for six seasons. In that time, he mostly served as an edge rusher with litter fanfare or NFL potential. He moved to more of a full-time linebacker role last season though and flourished there. He moves well at his size and was an effective two-down linebacker that could get after the quarterback.

His coverage skills are a notable weak spot, but he is a veteran with a lot of experience that could offer the team a Vince Williams style of a linebacker. He won’t ever become a top name, but he could be a valuable role player and a decent special teams option. He makes sense late on day three for a team looking to fill out their defensive depth chart.
