Considering the need for safety is not as high, they may still need one in 2023. Taking Lake here minimizes the need for a first-round draft choice, perhaps.

To a certain degree, this selection has a certain bias to it. In his playing days, Carnell Lake would have to be considered one of the most underrated safeties in the NFL. How can you not pass up taking the son of a player who is in your hall of honor? The upshot here is that you know his pedigree, and you are not drafting him to start; the goal is to develop him. You couldn’t find a better player to attempt this.

In their final pick of the 2022 NFL draft, the Steelers add a body to the offensive line. This selection is solely to add depth, especially in case of an injury at some point, which will almost certainly happen unless the Steelers catch a break in 2022.

There is plenty to like about this player. For a 7th-round draft choice, he has excellent speed for an offensive lineman posting a 5.13 40-yard dash. One downside is that he only benched 21 reps. Steelers coaches would have to work on his strength. With the right amount of development, he could also blossom into a starter at some point.
