OT Duane Brown

I could care less that Duane Brown will turn 37 years old just before the start of the 2022 season. An upgrade at left tackle is an upgrade at left tackle — regardless of whether or not he jacks up the age of the average starter on offense.

Though I would prefer him to be a few years younger, Brown is still playing at a very high level and his leadership and experience would be a most welcome addition to a young Steelers offensive line that struggled mightily in 2021.

If signed, Brown would slide right in as the starting left tackle for the upcoming season. This means that second-year OT Dan Moore Jr. could compete with Chukwuma Okorafor for the starting right tackle position. The loser of this battle would be more than capable as a swing tackle in the event of an injury.

While Duane Brown obviously isn’t going to be a long-term solution to the Steelers offensive line woes, I think he’s a clear and obvious upgrade over what they have. They could use some stability at the OT position until they are willing to invest high in the NFL Draft and finally find their left tackle of the future.
