Steelers Diontae Johnson factored into odd season stats

The Steelers did not have the most dynamic offensive production this season. Within that, perhaps Diontae Johnson had the most lackluster season, knowing his potential, which led to unusual stats within Pittsburgh’s passing game this season.

As you may have noticed, Johnson did not have a receiving touchdown in 2022. He had 84 receptions headed in into the Cleveland game. It is the most receptions without a touchdown since 1984 when James Wilder had 85 receptions with no touchdowns. He also surpassed Roger Craig’s mark of 81 receptions without a touchdown in 1986.

Johnson’s 882 receiving yards without a touchdown is the most since Hakeem Nicks’s 896 yards without a touchdown in 2013 for the Giants. Only Al Toon has more receiving yards without a touchdown which occurred in 1991. Raymond Berry fell just behind Johnson with his 873 yards in 1961.

Johnson now holds the record for 46 first downs without a touchdown. He surpassed Michael Timpson from the bears in 1996.

Johnson had 91 plus touches this season. Not the most of any Steelers player in Steelers history in a season. However, his 91 touches are not the most by a Steelers player without a touchdown. Surprisingly in 1992, Barry Foster had 426 touches without a touchdown, followed up by Jerome Bettis, who had 368 touches in 2000 without a touchdown.

Although late in the game Johnson finally caught a pass in the endzone to wrap up his season. Yet it only counted as a two-point conversion and not six points.
