4. Steelers should target North Dakota State OL Cody Mauch

With flowing locks and a fiery football demeanor, many fans likened Cody Mauch to 2021 Senior Bowl standout, Quinn Meinerz. This might not be an ideal comparison, however, as Meinerz was nearly 2 inches shorter and 15 pounds heavier. Mauch — who was an offensive tackle at North Dakota State — is expected to make the transition to guard at the next level, and some teams might even look for center versatility with him as well.

Despite the transition to playing most of his snaps at guard during Senior Bowl week, Mauch made the transition seem pretty effortless. Obviously, he wasn’t perfect. There were a few ugly reps mixed in, but it’s easy to see the traits with Mauch thanks to his rapid feet and violent punch.

At 6’4 3/4” and 305 pounds, Mauch is a bit lean for an NFL guard and may need to add some play strength if that’s where teams intend to play him. He also has less than ideal arm length at just 32 1/8” — which is exactly why he will need to move inside at the next level.

Mauch is a bit of a risk due to coming from a non-Power 5 school and making a positional change. He will be forced to take a massive leap in competition and he may not be ready to start as a rookie, but he shares a lot of similarities with Buccaneers Pro Bowl guard Ali Marpet who entered the NFL back in 2015. Mauch should be a target for Steelers later on day two of the 2023 NFL Draft.
