Makes sense for Steelers: Kamren Curl

You won't find a much better success story than Kamren Curl at the NFL level. He was drafted in the seventh round of the draft, just about instantly took over as a starter, and has been one of the most consistent players in the league since. There have been flashes of excellence in that span, but Curl has kept his play steady.

He now enters free agency as a 25-year-old starter who should, if the trend continues, provide really solid strong safety play for any team that invests in him. He is less of the box mold (although he does play there) and has some versatility as to where he can line up. He is stout against the run and can work well in man coverage and in zone.

He isn’t the biggest name on this list nor is he the best player, but at his age, there is still room for growth. He won’t be extremely cheap, but the safety market has been devalued with all of the talent that has flooded it. He could be a great value and a solid player for this defense if he were to be signed.

The Steelers still have a major need at safety, and adding a veteran in free agency makes a lot of sense right now. That said, not every veteran is a perfect fit, so Pittsburgh needs to be selective about who they add. I would hope to see a safety signing soon though for this team.
