Free Agency deals Steelers should regret missing out on
By Andrew Falce
Steelers missed out on Orlando Brown
To this point, every deal that I have mentioned has been a great value and a relatively cheap deal overall. Orlando Brown is a different story. He signed the third-highest deal for a tackle this offseason despite many viewing him as one of the top tackles in the NFL. He can play on either side and has proven to be a hard force to get around.
The Bengals inked him to a deal that averages 16 million dollars a season, which really isn’t a lot all things considered. He did get half of the total deal guaranteed at signing, but that doesn’t take away the fact that he received roughly 5-8 million less a year than most people expected. To land a dynamic left tackle at that price is huge.
The Steelers would have had to break some traditions, but Brown was an attainable player for this team. It looks like they tried to make an offer, but Brown ultimately landed with the Bengals instead. It was a great value deal and one that would have made the Steelers offensive line a far better unit overall.
The Steelers have been active in free agency, and while they have a handful of moves that look good, they certainly could have done better. The deals above were all below market value and would have been smart choices for this team to pursue.
