It was ugly, that’s for sure, but the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Browns on Monday Night Football 26-22 behind two defensive touchdowns. Now, the 1-1 Steelers will head out west for a matchup against the 1-1 Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday Night Football.

The Raiders had an even tougher Week 2 because their performance was ugly and so was the result, a 38-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Josh McDaniels and the Raiders are favored at home and BetSided NFL betting analyst Iain MacMillan also has a pick for this game in his “Road to 272.”

Steelers vs. Raiders key players to watch

Steelers

Jaylen Warren, RB: Jaylen Warren is the best running back on the Steelers roster and it’s not particularly close. Outside of George Pickens, Jaylen Warren was the only offensive player for Pittsburgh that seemed to make plays on Monday. Warren had four catches for 66 yards and six carries for 20 yards against Cleveland.

Raiders

Josh Jacobs, RB: Jacobs led the NFL in rushing yards in 2022, but in Week 2 he didn’t even lead the Raiders in rushing yards. He carried the ball nine times for a total of -2 yards and is up to 46 yards on the season. He’ll need to turn it around for the Raiders to avoid last place in the AFC West.

Steelers vs. Raiders prediction and pick

There is almost nothing to like about this Las Vegas Raiders roster. They have two marquee superstars, Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby, but in both instances they don’t have nearly enough help. Adams had six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 against Buffalo, but that was 35% of their total yards and their only touchdown. We don’t even need to talk about how bad this defense is. The 38 points from a Buffalo team that looked awful in Week 1 should say enough.

The Steelers offense is absolutely abysmal, but they’ll be able to move the ball some against Vegas. The Steelers are 30th in yards per play at 4.6, 30th in rushing offense, and 18th in passing offense. Kenny Pickett hasn’t looked comfortable or accurate at all this year, and yet it’s the offensive line that is the biggest problem. He has been pressured 38 times and sacked seven times through two games. The Raiders only pressured Josh Allen twice last week, which would be a huge improvement for Pickett.

The Browns and 49ers might have two of the best defensive lines in the league, so it’ll be very interesting to see Pittsburgh’s offense against Vegas. I expect them to have much more success, which isn’t a high bar to clear. The Pittsburgh pass-rush is probably in that group with the Browns and 49ers as one of the best. They’ll be all over Jimmy Garoppolo this week and the Steelers will win outright as a road underdog.

That pick has much more to do with how bad I think the Raiders are than any optimism I have about the Steelers this season because after two weeks that is all gone.
