Steelers Sign OG Bryant Browning to Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers needed an extra offensive lineman on their practice squad after Chicago Bears poached offensive tackle Joe Long yesterday. Pittsburgh’s brass wasted little time after Long’s departure, and the front office made the following move according to the team’s communications coordinator Burt Lauten:

Bryant Browning joins Chris Hubbard as the only two offensive linemen on Pittsburgh’s practice squad. Undrafted out of Ohio State back in 2011, the offensive guard (6’4″ 312 lbs.) should hopefully provide the Steelers with enough depth and insurance in the trenches to finish out the rest of the 2013 regular season.

Extremely inexperienced at the professional level, Browning has only played in one game during his three-year NFL career which has included stints with the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills.

How much of a shot Browning will get with the Steelers is certainly up for debate. Yet Browning could be walking into a very positive situation in Pittsburgh where the depth along their offensive line is far from settled.
